Kirstie recently gave an interview to People and revealed that although she’s been divorced twice before, she is more certain about what’s she looking for in a mate now:

Researchers from the University of New South Wales said a review of 38 studies of obesity and cognitive function found a strong association between obesity and weakness in the executive part of the brain, which controls problem-solving, decision-making, reasoning, planning, organisational skills and achievement of complex goals.
They said the novel finding, which comes amid growing evidence of a link between obesity and dementia, meant obesity may be better treated partly as a brain condition like anorexia nervosa, rather than a ”lifestyle disorder”.
Authors of the review published in the journal Obesity Reviews, said cognitive remediation therapy, which helps people understand how they think and teaches them ways of changing it, should be tested on obese people.
”Childhood and adult obesity is increasing dramatically and if obese individuals show early impairment of cognitive performance, this could lead to a larger and even more devastating epidemic: that of earlier onset dementia,” they wrote.
The researchers said although it was unclear whether cognitive deficits were a cause or consequence, there was likely to be a vicious cycle relationship between the two, with low performance in planning, reasoning and problem solving exacerbating weight gain.
This may be compounded by biological factors that arise from obesity, such as impaired insulin regulation, which can affect cognitive function.
The authors said yesterday that a number of factors could explain the relationship, including a gene for both obesity and cognitive impairment triggered by the environment. Studies have previously found that babies born to obese women eat faster than babies born to women of a normal weight.
Diet may also affect the brain, they said, given that previous researchers had seen cognitive impairment in humans and animals fed high fat diets.
Research has also found that people who lose significant weight, in the order of seven kilograms or more, experience improved cognitive function.
Lead author Dr Evelyn Smith said the study did not mean all obese people suffered from cognitive deficits. She said the studies reviewed suggested a spectrum of deficits from mild problems to noticeable ones that affected someone’s daily functioning. She said she hoped the study would not further stigmatise obese people, but rather reassure them that their weight gain might have been out of their control.
”Because current strategies for treating obesity are not successful long term, there’s an urgency to invest in new obesity research,” she said.
Clinical neuropsychologist at Monash University Rene Stolwyk said the study came amid mounting evidence of a link between obesity and cognitive problems. But he said this review did not provide solid evidence of the link.
He said the 38 studies reviewed varied in quality. Some did not adequately rule out variables such as socio-economic status, which may contribute to low performance on cognitive tests.
Dr Stolwyk said he also believed researchers were too quick to embrace cognitive remediation therapy as a possible treatment because there were doubts about its efficacy for people with eating disorders.
